| Bluestone is only found
in 1 area in the entire world and we just happen to live there. Bluestone
is basically a sandstone with some important color and physical differences.
Types of Bluestone |
| Mining Bluestone is hard work, but
well worth the effort. Potential quarry sites are difficult to identify
and costly to explore. Once a site has been chosen, then the real
workers get started. Bluestone cutters have particularly difficult,
grueling and dangerous jobs. Once the top is removed using heavy equipment,
the cutter actually saws the rock into sizes that work best for the
particular piece of stone they are working and result in manageable
sized pieces. After sawing, wedges are driven into the face of the
block and pieces are “lifted” usually resulting in a natural
cleft finish on both sides of the stone. |
|
|
| From there, the pieces are loaded
on a pallet for delivery to our Stone Dock . At the dock, the stone
can be custom fabricated into a variety of finishes to meet clients
custom fabrication needs. |
Natural Beauty
Our mining permits from NYS require us to return the quarried areas
back to conditions as natural as possible…. but we would do
that anyway. While we think that natural beauty of stone is the pinnacle
of quality, class and prestige, it just wouldn’t sit right if
a big hole in the ground was left when we were done. Our commitment
to the environment and its natural beauty demands attention to detail
and leaving areas disturbed by our mining efforts as close to its
original state as possible.
